Beyond the Clinic was founded in 2009 with one mission: to transform how healthcare is provided in Portland. We operate like a regular physical therapy clinic, but with one significant difference: We bring the therapy to you! Our team of physical therapists is dedicated to providing you with personalized and purposeful care in the comfort of your home.
Whether you are recovering from a total joint replacement, you have an older loved one who is injured, or you simply need a movement tune-up, we are happy to help.

Services
Providing outpatient therapy services at clients' homes, workplaces, gyms, and schools allows us to work with clients on skills right where they need them.
We help people to achieve the balance and strength they need to fully participate in community activities such as walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, safely crossing the street, and taking part in active recreational activities.
We provide outpatient therapy services therefore we do not see clients while they are receiving Home Health Services (nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy).

Once you know your normal steps.
You would slowly increase each week by incorporating more walks, more activities around the home, and more exercise.
Working with a health care professional like a physician or physical therapist can help you create a plan with safe progressions to safely increase your daily steps!

Do you want to be more active, have less injuries, feel better each day, able to walk, hike, and run?
The answer to all of these wants is consistency in training.
The more consistent you are in your exercises and training, the greater the outcomes are going to be.
I do realize that exercising constantly.
What I learned on my summer vacation.
Since I retired in 2008, every day is summer vacation but the nice weather does permit multiple, fun outdoor projects.
May through September this year were especially lovely, so Sue and I were able to accomplish the following: Sand and refinish 5-eight foot sections of cedar.

A study came out of japan looking at daily step counts and all cause mortality.
They looked at 70 year old Japanese people who were physically independent and asked them to wear a pedometer for 7 days to measure their steps to establish their baseline steps.
They were then put into different groups depending on their average steps per day.
They were not asked to change or alter their steps but were tracked over time to see how their own preferred steps per day correlated with mortality.
After the 10 years, the group of participants who took the most steps per day (over 7900 steps/day) had a significantly lower risk of death compared with participants who took less than 4500 steps/day.
