Our bodies are amazing machines, but like all things with moving and working parts, there is a certain amount of care and maintenance needed to preserve function. And, unfortunately, we all encounter injuries, trauma or just plain old wear and tear that requires special attention before we can return to our normal activities. Problem solving through and helping people recover from these circumstances is what physical therapists are trained to do.

Physical therapists are often associated with athletes in the sporting world. I believe we are all athletes in the event called Life. For some, therapy is needed as they train to climb a mountain. Others require therapy in preparation for climbing a single flight of stairs. Some need help just to climb out of bed. Regardless of whom you are, or what you need help with, you deserve to have care and attention that is specific for your needs.

I also believe that the body needs to be balanced top to bottom, front to back and side to side, and that we are all whole people.

Barbie graduated from Samuel Merritt College with her Master of Phyiscal Therapy in 1995 and has been practicing physical therapy with a broad range of patients for the past 16 years.
Her skills and experience span a wide range of ailments, ages and athletic abilities with her main focus being myofascial release, trigger point release and traditional manual therapies.
In 2005 Barbie founded Barbie Thomas Physical Therapy and has developed a long list of success stories, repeat clients and referrals, which are a testimony to her precise blend of education, experience and passion for healing her patients.
After a bad jump crash early this spring landed me in the hospital with chest contusions, bruised ribs, and cervical sprain and strain, I thought I would be off the water for at least a few months.
Five days after the accident, I went to see Barbie.
At the time, I couldn't shut a door, lay down on my own or even brush my hair or dress myself.
She understood what my body had been through and after one visit I walked out feeling like a new person.
After a few more visits and two weeks later I was back on the water and fellow skiers were calling me "super woman"- amazed by my quick recovery.
If you think that your pillow may be uncomfortable because it is too low try placing a bath towel folded in four inside the pillow case under your pillow.
This will raise the pillow and if you find this helps then look for a pillow that is higher than your current pillow.
Once you know what it is you don't like about your pillow you have an idea of what to look for in a new pillow.
Make sure the place where you buy your pillow from has mattresses available so that you can try your new pillow.
Select a mattress as close in firmness to your own, then lie down on the new pillow in your normal sleep position.
