Once we accomplish this, many of the quick and temporary fix, static, and overly-targeted therapeutic approaches can be discarded. Helping runners develop their potential has been a natural outgrowth of my love of running, training as an endurance runner, and professional work with runners as a Physical Therapist.
Individually tailored and highly successful approach for injured runners, post-surgery, older runners, those with chronic injuries or returning after surgery, new runners, and those who thought they could never run again.I sought Douglas' help after suffering from chronic running injuries over the past 15 years. Although I live in the Midwest, Douglas' sage advice is never more than a phone call, email, or Skype session away.
As a holistic physical therapy practitioner I take the understanding I have of the human body and of injury and healing processes and apply that to all the ways a person uses themselves at work, athletics, home, play, and daily activities.

Services
I have combined a training in traditional sports medicine with a comprehensive study of current holistic approaches to the body, healing, and movement.
And over the last 25 years have developed innovative and personalized methods to help my clients overcome many injuries that are rooted in posture, structure and form.
In addition to applying these methods to a wide field of activities, forty-five years of distance running and fifteen years of intensive endurance training and racing has given me a personal understanding of the specific injuries and problems associated with running.

Have you been frustrated by a health care provider who told you that you shouldn't run anymore, or perhaps that running is bad for your knees?
I have more than 25 years of experience as a Physical Therapist, a background in Sports Medicine, 40 years as a distance runner, and a resume that includes thousands of miles of ultra-distance running and racing.
Specializing in running injury and training, I have a deep understanding of each injury-what the injury feels like, what prognosis or outcome can be expected, and how to help a runner overcome the injury and its limitations.

Healing on the Run is a method of training while injured with the intention of healing common running injuries through the use of specific visualization, focuses, and running form corrections.
This method is highly successful because it augments the body's innate ability to heal more quickly when mobile.
When allowing all the soft tissue; muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints to move through their proper range of motion while running, there will be an enhanced healing effect due to increased flow of blood, lymph, and energy to the area.

If you have a sore and/or inflamed Achilles tendon, you are overusing your calf in either the landing phase or take off phase of the stride, or both.
It's simple and so the correction is also simple.
It is often quite amazing how quickly it can resolve, even in long standing chronic cases, when the runner's stride is corrected.
The important thing is to stop using the muscles of the calf for force production in the running stride.
As I pointed out in other common overuse running injuries, the habit has been to overuse the legs and underuse the core.
